A Short Update on My Medical Condition

11 Sep 2023 10:15 AM | Anonymous

In case anyone is interested:

As mentioned in a previous article last week (at https://eogn.com/page-18080/13248857), I am back at home after my recent hospitalization. As I mentioned in that update, "I am not back to 'my old self' but I do feel better than I did for the past week or so."

Indeed, the recuperation has been slower than I expected. Maybe that is because my body is getting older. (I celebrated a birthday a few days ago.)

In any case, I am now planning to work on this newsletter every day. In other words, I now plan to revert to my regular schedule.

For anyone who didn't read my earlier update, after taking a rather long automobile trip, I went to get out of the automobile but I stumbled and fell, hitting the back of my head rather hard on the pavement. I immediately saw stars and all sorts of other lights. Being a typical male, I shrugged it off as "a minor incident." However, upon walking into the house a few minutes later, I fell twice on the living room floor. Maybe it wasn't so "minor."

Three days later, things were not improving so I went to a walk-in medical center. They gave me a quick once-over evaluation and immediately sent me to a nearby hospital emergency room. After a more extensive evaluation, I was admitted to the hospital.

Three days later I was discharged with a warning that a full recovery would take at least 2 or 3 weeks. Since then, I haven't left the living room couch for more than a very few minutes.

Do you know how BORING daytime television is?

Take it steady Mr E. If you want REALLY boring try YouTube channels about DIY hacks - five thousand uses for a electric drill that you never knew (or cared about)...

Many have fallen into Genealogy in one way or another, however few fall backwards into it. Best wishes.

So glad to hear you’re doing better! We were worried about you. Please don’t worry about the newsletter-the most important thing is your health. Do as much as you feel up to but don’t pressure yourself. I did think “ typical male” when you didn’t mention going to the ER! Get better soon and take care of yourself 😊

I wish you the best, and hope you recover soon and fully back to yourself.

[With a wealth of quality free online programming, as well as affordable "à la carte" subscription on-demand programming, there is no way to run out of amazing television to watch any time of day. But if you insist on just watching OTA or basic cable daytime programming, then yes, it's most definitely BORING!]

You will have no arguments about boring TV unless you're in a rehab with 62 channels and half are repeats from old shows you missed years ago and half are of incredible movies, like all day Harry Potter movies, all day Star Trek movies, etc., like I have in more than 1 month in rehab just last month.

So glad you're feeling better but please take it easy, these things take time and maybe longer than the 2-3 weeks.....be kind to yourself, we're happy to wait :)

Please make sure to recover as the doctor's orders are so important. My spouse had a severe head injury in July with a severe concussion, brain bleed, broken neck and nose, and stitches in her face. She has been in rehab for 40 days. Get well and listen to the doctor.

Hey, getting old all that much fun, especially if you fall and hit your head. Taking the slow recovery path will help in the long run. Maybe watching boring tv will produce some added rest time.

    Dick,

Take it easy. Ann Hughes, who you may remember ran Gateway Press, took a fall on cement steps recently and is still trying to get back to normal after two months. Joe

Thanks for the update Dick. I am glad you finally went to the doctor! Anyone over 65 should head to ER after a fall and especially a head lick! It is not something to take lightly. You are needed, so please don't take any chances. Glad you are taking it easy and feeling somewhat better. Patience . . . YES day time TV is boring! Leonard

I cannot reply to every message posted here but I assure you I have read every one and I appreciate the comments and advice. And yes, I did certainly wait too long before seeking medical help. But not next time...
