GEDCOM 7.0 Announced!

25 Feb 2021 9:55 PM | Anonymous

GEDCOM 7.0 is being announced this week at the RootsTech virtual conference. If you did not attend the virtual conference, you can still read all about release candidate 1 (7.0.0-rc1) at https://gedcom.io/specifications/GEDCOM7rc.html.

GEDCOM 7 includes some important changes, but perhaps most important of all, GEDCOM-related activity was dormant at FamilySearch for a long, long time but now it is active again. That is great news for the genealogy community.

---> Why must I subscribe to the link to view GEDCOM 7 news?

Because the software developers working on GEDCOM 7.0 communicate with each other GitHub and that is where ll the news and all the comments are shared amongst the developers.

Is there any other way we can get the news release. I'd rather not set up a GitHub account.

Maybe you can just answer the question: do we need to do anything like download and install the new GEDCOM?

    Thanks.

Yesterday, FamilySearch inexplicably removed or made inaccessible everything about GEDCOM 7.0, including the two RootTech sessions by Gordon Clarke.

My blog post tracks what happened over the past week: https://www.beholdgenealogy.com/blog/?p=3724

Has anyone seen anything further about GEDCOM 7? That link to GitHub appears to be dead.
