"Using FamilySearch Memories as Your Personal and Family Archive"
By Gregory and Ellen Thorson (volunteer representatives for FamilySearch) Sponsored by Milwaukee County Genealogical Society
Learn how FamilySearch preserves historical records and extends that capability to every person and family through the free forever Memories feature of FamilySearch.org.
Gregory and Ellen Thorson are both retired nurses, having taken up that profession later in life. Gregory worked in long-term care, and Ellen worked as a school nurse. Each has nearly 50 years of experience in family history research, and they have been volunteering representatives for FamilySearch International since January 2021.
While they had expected to be capturing images at the National Archives facility in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, COVID interfered, and closed all NARA locations to volunteers for all of 2021. They were then asked to look for more records to add to FamilySearch.org, and have been surprised by how much they enjoy meeting the good citizens at many genealogical and historical societies and libraries, and sharing how FamilySearch can help them preserve their valuable collections.
